Wayne Murrie
gave the home crowd the result they wanted in the main event. The chants
of WANNA rang round the Metrodome as he and Bryan Moore
struggled in the clinch. When the pair fell, Murrie mounted his rival.
After taking some hard punches, Moore rolled, Murrie applied the rear
naked choke and it was all over.
Lanus Jones was equally impressive. On the ground, he punished
Daniel Sliwowski with clubbing right hands. Lanus was always looking
to pass. Once he mounted his man and the punches were landing from both
sides, the referee had only one option. Another hard hitting display
from the unbeaten Jones.
James Saville has been tipped for stardom for years. The
youngster lived up to the hype with a slick finish to beat Pete Hill.
On the feet, there was little to choose between the two. On the mat,
Saville bided his time then slapped on a triangle, forcing Hill to tap
instantly.
Leeroy Barnes pushed the pace early in his bout with James
Bateman. As Barnes advanced, throwing leather James seemed content
to clinch. After struggling against the fence, daylight opened up
between the pair. Leeroy never saw the punch coming. He was out from the
second it connected. A massive KO win for Bateman.
Jules Willis scored a second round ground and pound victory over
Billy Glossop.
Semi Pro
The title fight between Scott Askham and Sam Boult was
special. Often, you hear about a crowd going wild. The Barnsley fans
went really wild. Wild like baboons on crack. Southpaw Askham was in
charge on the feet, repeatedly leading with left uppercuts. Towards the
end of the first, he upped the intensity and had Sam in trouble on the
fence when the bell rang. The pattern continued, but Boult looked to
have the edge on the canvas and went very close with an armbar attempt
at the end of the second. As the crowd chanted and stomped, the pair
toughed it out to go the distance. Boult spent most of the third round
on top, but Askham was constantly looking for subs.
Scott Askham wins by majority decision.
Tom Whitaker and Nick Slack exchanged tit for tat knock
downs at the start of the first round. In the second, Whitaker came out
on top, forcing a submission by way of Americana.
Daryl Westcott beat late sub Mark Stockton with a second
round Kimura.
Louis Chapman and James Green left it all in the cage,
putting on a great show for three rounds. The judges scored it even.
Ross Price smashed through Martin Stocks defences with
sharp, straight punches. Stocks wobbled and Price pushed on. A couple
more unanswered shots and it was all over. A swift but fair stoppage.
Tom Howells opponent dropped out. Matthew Stocks
opponent got injured in the warm up. At the last minute- the idea was
pitched that they should fight each other. Not only did they accept,
they went at it with gusto in one of the best fights of the night.
Howells got the nod from the judges.
Zi Shah showcased his strength and wrestling ability before he
was snared in a triangle by Tom Breese.
Danny Dwyers crisp stand up was too much for Joe Patrick
in the opener. Dwyer earned a stoppage victory.
Crowd
Turned out in big numbers and created a brilliant atmosphere. The fans
really got behind the fighters; great support without any jeering.
Also had a large
contingent of attractive, well dressed female fans. Pretty much the
perfect audience.
