Another OMMAC, another
Paul Sass victory.
Jason Young came up to Liverpool with a rep for muscular stand up
and excellent takedown defence. After tapping two minutes into his
challenge for the OMMAC Lightweight belt, he was wearing the “What
Happened?” look that we see on the face of every Sass casualty. The
Londoner managed to free himself from two triangle attempts before
falling victim to the new Sass sub of choice- the heel hook.
For all the naysayers, it’s time to admit that Sass is something
special. Once again, someone with all the tools that should supposedly
trouble Sass ends up being lured into the kind of fight the Scouser
relishes. Surely, Paul Sass is ready to make the step up to
interantional competition.
In the co-main event,
Wayne Murrie put on a bravura performance against Pete Irving
to take the OMMAC Welterweight title. Murrie looked in control on the
feet, setting up combinations from his leg kicks while Irving relied on
hard, single shots. When Pete went for takedowns against the fence,
Wayne stayed calm and secured underhooks. Each time they went down in
the first, Murrie gained top position- ending the round with an unlikely
reverse triangle attempt.
Irving switched to Abdul-esque takedowns, showing phenomenal strength to
lift his man way up high then dump him on the canvas. Once he got the
Yorkshireman on the floor- he couldn’t contain him. Murrie went close
with two rear naked choke attempts in the second and what looked like a
fight finishing arm bar in the third.
When the final bell sounded, Murrie smiled and raised his arms. Irving’s
cornermen urged him to do the same, but he knew the game was up.
Unanimous decision victory for ‘Mayhem Murrie’.
Jay McGuinness kept his cool to defeat Declan Williams.
The fight hit the deck early and Jay was in control. Then Williams
rolled out of a tight spot and began unloading punches from the top.
McGuinness bided his time and seized on an armbar to take the win.
Neil McGuigan made a bid for the longest triangle attempt world
record. When Chris Fishgold finally escaped, he took McGuigan’s
back and finished him quickly with a rear naked choke.
Ronan McKay scored his second sub victory at consecutive OMMACs.
McKay edged the first round against Jay Gladden before finishing
his man with an armbar at the start of the second.
Jay Manning took Jason Muldoon down and soon earned the
tap with a North / South choke. Danny Sweeney armbarred Nij
Wright into submission and Mike Wilkinson scored with a first
round rear naked choke against Neil Spring.
Michael Reid took a unanimous decision over Neil Dutson
after three gruelling rounds. Richie Downes stacked Paul
Ramsdale against the fence and unleashed a ground and pound assault
that caused the ref to stop the contest in less than a minute.
In semi pro action- the highly touted Pietro Menga scored a
decision victory over Brent Crawley and the killer knees of
Louis Jenkins stopped Mally Richardson in the first.
