The main event was
twenty five minutes of grit and grind- ending with a unanimous decision
win for Tom Watson. Tom Horwich’s gameplan consisted of an
arrow pointing towards a fence with takedown written under it. He
followed it to perfection in the first, then applied a convincing rear
naked choke. On the big screen, Watson’s eyes had the serene look of a
man on the way out, but he dug deep and broke free. In the second, he
had more success, landing some meaty body shots. The third was a clinch
war against the fence. When the pair separated, Watson tagged Horwich
with a big right hand and the American looked in trouble for the first
time. Horwich fired back in the fourth. His takedowns and ground control
forced Kong to give his back as he struggled to get up. Tight against
the cage, Horwich launched another convincing rear naked choke attempt.
In the final round, the boys were back on the canvas with Matt in
charge. Tom managed to reverse the position and unleashed some solid
ground and pound.
Many of the ringside press pack felt that Horwich had done enough.
hurtbusiness had Watson sneaking it by a round. The judges scored it
48-47, 49-47 and the judge wearing rose tinted spectacles with union
jack fames saw it 49-46 in favour of the new BAMMA Middleweight champion
Tom “Kong” Watson.
Seth Petruzelli was all business in his quick win over Ryan
White, pushing the pace standing up. The American slipped after
attempting a high kick. White pounced, Seth wiggled the snake hips,
threw his legs up and scored with an armbar.
Rob Sinclair showed all the signs of being a man ready to step up
to the next level. He blew away the stylish German Daniel Weichel
to retain his BAMMA lightweight belt. Sinclair demonstrated outstanding
takedown defence early in the fight. When the pair finally hit the deck,
Rob controlled his man and repeatedly struck him from top position. The
blows took their toll and Weichel was unable to fire back any longer and
the ref waved it off.
“Fuck Yeah” shouted War Machine after he made short work of
Zach Light. Wrestler Light took War down, but Mr Machine quickly
reversed the position and took his back. War Machine slapped on a choke
and the Light lights went out. Can War Machine fight? Fuck Yeah.
Mark Adams took the BAMMA Featherweight strap from Alan Omer.
On the feet, both had success. Adams repeatedly took his man down,
stacked him up against the fence and unloaded. A statement of intent
from a fighter on the way up.
Norwegian glamour boy and future superstar Simeon Thoresen took a
unanimous decision victory over John Maguire.
Mike Ling is a tough guy. He took plenty of clubbing punches from
Carl Noon that would put lesser mortals to sleep. Finally, Noon
took the W- executing a double leg takedown before applying a rear naked
choke.
Jeff Lawson took out Dave Lee in under a minute with an
armbar.
Ashleigh Grimshaw versus Paul Reed was always going to be
a memorable fight. Paul was the governor in the first round, dishing out
some serious ground and pound. In the second, he continued to press,
throwing some tasty left hand leads. Ash stepped through and responded
with his own left lead- Reedy hit the deck and the fight was over.
Technique wise, it was an ugly punch, but the sheer power of the lunging
blow meant there was no way back.
Flyweight Billy Harris was a unanimous decision after a hard
fight against Neil Seery. Martin McDonough submitted
Mike Wood with a first round triangle choke.
